Ali was among 80 Americans awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor on October 27, 1986. Other awardees included Joe DiMaggio, Rosa Parks, and fellow Kentuckian Joe Bowen. The awards were presented to awardees as part of the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty's official dedication.
