According to an article published in the Kenosha Evening News August 26, 1960, Cassius Clay was flustered by the lack of publicity for boxing in the Olympics compared to other Olympic Events. He was quoted as saying, "We get our head knocked off--and all they talk about is John Thomas, the high jumper."
Despite that lack of publicity, his gold medal win garnered him international attention and catapulted his professional boxing career.
